AOAAM’s Advanced Studies Certificate, Essentials of Addiction Medicine

  • To qualify for the Certificate, physicians must complete 20 hours of CME in one year, at least half of which must be AOA Category 1-A courses taught by the AOAAM.  Additional hours can be submitted for AOAAM approval as completed by the APA, AAAP and ASAM.  
  • Upon completion of this course, the earned Advanced Studies Certificate is free for AOAAM members or $200 for non-members.  
  • The Certificate is valid for a 3-year period.

Physician Assistants (PAs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs)

To apply for a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine, physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) must, in accordance with the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), complete 24 hours of specialized training. The training must include 8 hours of MAT waiver training and an additional 16 hours of training.

The AOAAM Essentials of Addiction Medicine course meets the criterion of the 16 additional hours required.
