Steven C. Boles, DO

Dr. Steven Boles received his D.O. degree from C.O.M.S. in 1981; interned at Phoenix General Hospital, and then received additional residency training in Internal Medicine. He received his Board certification in Family Practice from the AOBFP in 1992.

He was trained in Addiction Medicine at St. Luke's Behavioral Health Center in Phoenix, AZ, from April 1999 through August 2000, by C.J. Shaw, M.D. and the nursing staff.

Dr. Boles was certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, in 2000.

He is a member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine, and elected onto its Board of Trustees Feb 10th, 2008

He has developed, and been privileged to teach, an Addiction Medicine Course, to 2nd-year Osteopathic medical students at AZCOM-Midwestern University, for the last 7 years.

Dr. Boles is currently the President of the Arizona Society of Addiction Medicine.

He was granted Fellow status by ASAM in 4/2008.

He has maintained a private practice for the past 24 years in Phoenix, AZ., and is supported by his beautiful wife Natalie, and their 4 children.


Margaret Kotz, DO

Dr. Kotz is currently an addiction psychiatrist at the University Hospital of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. She had been an addiction psychiatrist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for the past 20 years. Dr. Kotz has been involved in all diagnostic and treatment modalities for patients with addictive disorders and has extensive experience with co-morbid conditions, including the severely medically ill.

Her clinical areas of interest as well as research have focused on transplant patients with addictive disorders, women's treatment issues, and patient's with chronic pain. She was an investigator in the multi-site trials for naltrexone and acamprosate.

She has presented at many national scientific meetings and has mentored numerous students, residents and fellows in Addiction Medicine.


William Morrone, DO

William R. Morrone, D.O., M.S. currently works as Assisstant Director of Family Medicine at Synergy Medical Education Alliance (a division of MSU), Medical Director at Hospice of Michigan, and as an addictionologist in the juvenile justice system through Wolverine Human Services all in Saginaw, Michigan. Dr. Morrone is a graduate of Michigan State University (MSUCOM) completing an internship in internal medicine and residency in family medicine. He is board certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners and certified by both American Academy of Pain Management and American Society of Addiction Medicine. He also holds national certification as a Certified Pain Educator through the American Society of Pain Educators as well as Certified Forensic Physician through the American College of Forensic Examiners. He was a former National Health Service Corps Scholar and worked with the underserved population of inner city Saginaw. He also holds a graduate degree in toxicology and pharmacology from the University of Missouri at Kansas and currently serves as a Medical Examiner.


John Patz, DO, FAAFP, FASAM

Dr. Patz is a 1988 COMP graduate who trained in Family medicine. Since 2003 he has limited his practice to addiction medicine with a special interest in co-occurring pain issues.

He has treated approximately 700 patients with buprenorphine and has presented to a variety of audiences on this pharmaceutical.

Dr. Patz practices at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett where he divides his time between inpatient detoxification, outpatient addiction medicine and research.


John Scanlon, DO, FAAFP

Dr. Scanlon is an addiction medicine specialist physician from Pikeville Kentucky. He received his medical degree from Des Moines University and did his residency at University of Kentucky. He has been practicing addiction medicine since 1996.

Dr. Scanlon is certified in both Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has significant experience in working with clients in the criminal justice system and is on the staff of the Pike County Kentucky Drug Court. He is trained as a drug court provider by the National Drug Court Institute. He is on the teaching faculty of the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and serves on the expert panel for development of protocols for the treatment of opiate addicted pregnant women for the State of Kentucky. He was medical director of addiction services at Pikeville Medical Center from 2004 thru 2006, and is now on the full time faculty of the medical school in Pikeville, KY.

Dr. Scanlon is involved in research and teaching with a special interest in addiction treatment within the criminal justice system. He is actively involved in community education, and in mentoring of practicing physicians in the Appalachian region.


Marla Kushner, DO

Dr. Marla Kushner graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine; she did her family practice residency at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan and her Adolescent Medicine fellowship at a combined program between Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center and Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Kushner is currently practicing medicine in Chicago and is the medical director for the Mercy- Dunbar and Mercy- Phillips School-Based Health Centers and Hazelden Chicago. She was recently awarded status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
